Dead Ends has been a great learning experience.
About the crimes and the criminals, of course. I learned a lot about British Columbia’s history while researching the 40 crimes that ended up in the book. Many of the true crimes, from the past or today, revealed a lot about who we were, and are, as a society. I plan to write about that in future posts.
Now I’m learning about how to get people to read the book.
I have a great publisher, the University of Regina Press. But I want to do my part to get the book out there. I have a business background, know marketing and communications and media. It should be easy.
But Dead Ends: BC Crime Stories, is one of 1,215 new September releases available on Munro’s Books website.
Lots of them are in very different categories - kids’ books and travel and cooking. But still, how do you get noticed in a flood of books, a lot of them really good?
So I started this website and blog. I’m hoping to share a couple of chapters through newspapers, so readers can sample before they buy. I’m thinking about a launch party and hoping for a chance to talk about Dead Ends on radio and TV. (It’s a great topic.) I’m ready to show up for talk or sign books.
But I’m still looking for good ideas. How do you think I could let more people, and bookstores, know about the book? Comments, or emails, are much more than welcome.
